About the Inn

History

The Inn at Lock Seven is a historical treasure dating back to 1850s. The stone house site of the Inn was originally used as an administration building with an Engineer’s office during construction of the Fourth Welland Canal. The initial construction started in 1913. The First World War bought a halt to the project and construction resumed and continued until the waterway opened in 1932.

From its opening in 1932 until the beginning of the Second World War, it was possible to access the locks and observe the lowering and raising of vessels up close. The Inn at Lock Seven was built in 1965, incorporating a 1850s stone house. The old stone work is still visible in the facade. The Inn created an excellent vantage point for guests to view Lock 7 activities.
